Project Embrace/Brazos Abiertos is committed to including African Americans and Latinos in HIV vaccine research as participants, researchers, educators and witnesses of the process.
African Americans and Latinos are the two groups most heavily affected by HIV/AIDS in the United States, but we are vastly under-represented in HIV vaccine trials. Our participation in these studies is critical in order to understand how these vaccines will work for us & our communities.
In the early stages of this study, we interviewed a diverse group of African Americans and Latinos. They shared their concerns about HIV vaccine research and suggested ways to improve recruitment
strategies for our communities. We are already putting their
recommendations into action.
We will continue to reach out through our newsletter, public forums,
and discussions with interested individuals to keep our
communities informed and get critical feedback about what
our communities want next.
We invite your feedback, questions, and suggestions: 415.554.4258.
