CIRCUIT PARTY MEN'S HEALTH SURVEY

Research Question

Why do men attend circuit parties and what factors are associated with higher risk sexual practices?

Study Design

The Circuit Party Men's Health Survey was a study of 295 gay and bisexual men from the San Francisco Bay Area who attended at least one circuit party in the year before the study.

Men were asked questions about their motivations for attending, as well as about their sexual risk and patterns of substance use.

Study Results

Nearly all men reported using recreational drugs at circuit parties. One quarter of the men reported a drug "overuse" incident in the previous year, where they lost consciousness, needed medical attention or were unable to care for themselves.

Unprotected anal sex was associated with substance use, pointing to the need for prevention strategies targeting substance use, as well as sexual risk.
