"When we do find an end to this epidemic, it will be because of people who dared to care."

COMPLETED STUDIES

Completed studies are ones where we've already run the trial, analyzed the data and have determined whether or not the medical intervention was effective.

We've included only the most important studies here . However, in the section on HIV vaccine trials, there is a link to the Pipeline Project that catalogues the results of all of the HIV vaccine trials done to date internationally through the HVTN.

Completed HIV Vaccine Trials

Several past studies of various HIV vaccine formulations.

Ace Study

Tested whether taking acyclovir to prevent herpes outbreaks will break the link between HIV and herpes, thereby preventing new HIV infections.

Project Embrace

Looked at the reasons why African Americans and Latinos decide to either participate or not participate in HIV vaccine research, and what we can do to increase their involvement.

Project T

A study for HIV-negative gay & bisexual men and transgender women (MTF). Looks to see if they can safely take tenofovir, a commonly prescribed pill used for HIV treatment.

Circuit Party Men's Health Survey

Explored why men attend circuit parties and what factors are associated with higher risk sexual practices in that environment.

Explore Study

Looked to see if participating in an intensive counseling program helps people protect themselves against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

New Choices

Investigated the emerging factors in gay men's risk taking behavior with an eye on creating appropriate prevention messages for the community.
